Interview with Meagan Isaacs
How do you feel being chosen as your community’s Supernova?
I am truly honored to be this year’s Supernova at Homestead Hills. I have one of the best executive teams to work with, and I am beyond thankful to receive this award. 2020 has been a hard year to say the least with all of the adjustments and changes through our wellness programming. I would be lying if I said I haven’t been very frustrated at times and wondered if what I was doing was enough. Being honored at the community’s Supernova was very uplifting for me and gave me that boost to know that I was doing the best I could and my team supported me.
In your position, how do you fulfill the company’s Guiding Principles (People First Always, We Exist To Serve Our Members and We Have A Responsibility to be Full)?
First and foremost my job is our Members. Putting them, their needs and safety first is my top priority. I am here to help them live an active, healthy, and weller life. I constantly listen to them as to what they want, don’t want, and need from my department. I want my residents to feel accomplished, safe, and valued everyday in anything they do, wellness related or not. All of these goals help accomplish and fulfill our company’s guiding principles within the wellness department.
What do you want people to know about living at a retirement community?
Whatever preconceived notion you have about a retirement community we more than likely do not fit that mold. We have fun every day, and lots of it! Being older doesn’t mean you have to give things up. As a recreation therapist my job is to take an idea and mold it to fit the needs of anyone. I am all about modification to allow anyone to try anything once. I am lucky to have constant support from my Executive Director as well as my home office supervisor to treat the “sky as the limit.” With that support I am truly able to do my job well, have fun while doing it, and go home at the end of every day with the feeling of making a difference in someone’s life.
