Old Hollywood Signature Experience

In June, Members at Homestead Hills were taken back to the golden age of Old Hollywood. For the community’s first Signature Experience, Attendees took a time machine back to the days of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady. The day began with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s Alzheimer’s Association Fundraiser. Attendees dined on delicious French Toast with Blueberry Drizzle. There were jewels and pearls and Tiffany Blue galore! Windsor Jewelers loaned us a few gorgeous pieces that our ladies modeled during breakfast. In the late morning, Members made their way to “Central Park” for an afternoon that was filled with games. There were boat races, putting competitions, car races, and more! To conclude our day, community Members participated in an Evening in Old Hollywood, hosted by one and only, Dino Martini! His vocal stylings brought the tunes to dinner, while his smooth voice and comical banter had attendees begging for more! The menu for the evening consisted of Shrimp Cocktail atop a Glass with Cocktail Sauce & Fresh Lemon, Table Side Caesar Salad prepared by Chef Michael, Traditional Beef Wellington with White Asparagus and Bleu Cheese Butter, Chilled Vichyssoise Soup with Chive Oil, finishing with a Lady Baltimore Cake. It was a beautiful evening among the glitz and glam of Homestead Hills stars!

Champagne Tasting Chef’s Table – April

Throughout 2021, the Social and Dining departments worked together to provide exclusive dining experiences for Members of Homestead Hills. One notable event of the year was the Champagne Tasting Chef’s Table. The local wine vendor that partners with Homestead Hills for this event hand selected six delicious bottles of champagne that were paired with five courses. This was such an elegant evening as attendees were transported to a French garden in Paris. Guests had the opportunity to enjoy a champagne tasting of six selected sparklers, each with its flavor and bubble scale! The paired bites included Prosciutto and Brie, Salami, Manchego Cheese and Salted Almonds Board, Tempura Batter Chicken Strip with Fresh Herbs, and Parmesan Cheese, Gouda Mac and Cheese Bite, Shrimp Skewers with Shrimp, Black Olives, Cherry Tomatoes, Mozzarella Ball, Cheesecake and Brownies with Fresh Raspberries! Pop, Fizz, Clink – Cheers to exciting meals with friends!

Summer Rum Tasting

Members welcomed Daniel Spivey from Broad Branch Distillery to Homestead Hills in July! As the distillery’s representative, he led a summer rum tasting that brought island vibes into the community. He brought his Broad Branch “Sungrazer” Rum, distilled right here in Winston Salem, and we also presented Mount Gay “Eclipse” from Barbados and Appleton Estates “Signature” from Jamaica. The rum was paired with a Brie and Cranberry Compote Bite on a Rosemary & Fig Cracker, Charcuterie Board with Dried Tropical Fruit, and a Rum & Coke Chocolate Cake with Maraschino Cherry Icing!

Summer Olympics SE – July

In honor of the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, Homestead Hills hosted their own exciting week of games! Members had a full calendar of sports, agility activities, and delicious food! Each day of the week, the community’s Wellness team prepared targeted workouts and snacks that represented each color of the Olympic Rings. Some examples were yellow – banana and mango infused water, and black – blackberries! Whether Members were finding their aim in games like archery or darts, they were hunting for a gold medal! To conclude the week, for a closing ceremony, the Dining Services team transformed the community’s signature restaurant into a traditional Japanese Garden at the Chef’s Table! Attendees dined on Olympic Fruit Salad with Blueberries, Bananas, Blackberries, Kiwi & Strawberries w/ Lime Crème Fresh, Jamaican Jerk Skewer with Arugula Salad, Fish & Chips to include Potato Cake with Two Pieces of Fried Cob with Malt Vinegar, Pickled Peppercorn Mayo & Swiss Chard. They also enjoyed Ramen Noodle w/ Soft Boiled Egg, Cilantro, Edamame, Sliced Pork, Green Onion, Carrots & Shitake Mushrooms and ended with Spiral Cut Deep Fried Apple Pie!

ALZ Day SE – September

On Tuesday, September 21st, Homestead Hills participated in Alzheimer’s Awareness Day with a day themed around supporting this cause and helping to raise awareness in the fight to #ENDALZ. From start to finish, it was a full day of events beginning with a juicing lesson by the Homestead Hills Wellness Team, Meagan and Jessi. This dynamic duo worked with Members to help educate them about different foods that can optimize their brain power! In the afternoon, an Alzheimer’s Hot Dog Luncheon was on the schedule. Members came out to support this cause and have a great lunch! The community raised over $500 for Alzheimer’s in just one hour. Later in the day, Members participated in a golf cart parade to show our support for Alzheimer’s Awareness. Members and team members alike decorated their golf carts for all of the community to see! Goldie Irving, a local Dementia Care Specialist, came to speak to our Members and Family Members. Goldie offered literature and education on signs of early on-set, and also had an interactive piece of her presentation. To conclude the event, we hosted our Alzheimer’s Gala Fundraiser. Attendees dressed up in glitz and glam for an evening raising awareness for this cause that is so near and dear to the Members, staff, and families of Homestead Hills. Those who attended generously donated to the Alzheimer’s Association as a part of this gala. Heavy hors d’oeuvres were served along with a dessert spread, and an open bar. While guests chatted among themselves and were entertained by one of Homestead Hills’ favorite entertainers, “Wonderwall” – a Beatles Tribute Band.
